Hi! I’m Sandy.
I created Thrive Wellness Collective because I got tired of feeling like my only options were to push through the pain or give up entirely.
If you’re living with chronic inflammation, autoimmune disease, or a body that never seems to follow the rules, you know what I’m talking about. The fatigue that no amount of sleep fixes. The unpredictable flares. The frustration of looking “fine” while feeling anything but.
There’s no shortage of advice out there. New diets. Hard-core workout plans. Expensive supplements. Most of it assumes you have endless energy and a body that cooperates.
Mine didn’t.
My Story
It took years before doctors finally figured out what was happening. What started as unexplained pain eventually led to a diagnosis of Ankylosing Spondylitis, along with other inflammatory and immune system complications.
For a while, treatment helped.
Then life happened.
Within a short period of time, I experienced devastating personal loss, financial stress, and heartbreak. As my stress grew, so did my illness. My body seemed to unravel.
I battled recurring infections that wouldn’t heal, severe inflammation throughout my body, debilitating fatigue, muscle spasms, tremors, and constant pain. I could no longer keep up with my full-time job as a paralegal, and between the medical bills and a disability claim that was still years from resolving, I had to move in with my adult son. There were days I couldn’t stand long enough to shower. He’d help me get out of bed. I relied on a cane, then a walker, just to make it through the day.
Doctors tried medication after medication. Two weeks in the hospital. More tests than I can count.
Eventually, I found myself wondering if this was simply going to be my life.
The Part No One Talks About
The hardest part wasn’t just the physical pain.
It was the loneliness.
It was trying to work full time while my body was falling apart, showing up when I had nothing left, and pretending I could keep carrying the same load. Even the most understanding bosses can reach a point where they stop understanding. One told me, more or less, “if you’re even really sick.” Patience wears thin. Grace starts to run out.
People don’t always understand chronic illness. They see one good day and assume you’re better. They don’t see what happens after you get home.
I lost friendships.
A relationship ended because I wasn’t “healthy enough.”
I questioned myself more times than I can count.
Late at night, I’d search online hoping to find someone who had lived through what I was living through — someone who could honestly say, “I made it. You can too.”
I never found her.
So I decided that if I ever got my life back, I’d become that person for someone else.
Finding My Way Back
My healing didn’t happen overnight, and it certainly wasn’t one single thing that changed everything.
It started with the smallest possible step.
At first, movement meant doing Pilates in bed because getting on the floor wasn’t an option. Eventually I graduated to gentle exercise, then walking, then the gym.
Along the way, I began paying attention to something I had overlooked for years: the connection between stress and inflammation.
I started working on my mental and emotional health as intentionally as my physical health. Therapy. Breathwork. Meditation. Journaling. Faith. Better nutrition. Strength training. Daily movement. Learning to listen to my body instead of fighting it.
Little by little, my life came back.
Today
Today, I lift weights. I take sunrise walks. I practice yoga. I eat in a way that supports my body instead of punishing it. I’m stronger than I’ve been in years and living medication-free.
Do I still have difficult days?
Absolutely.
Healing isn’t about becoming a different person. It’s about learning how to live well in the body you have while continuing to help it become stronger.
Thrive Wellness Collective isn’t about perfection.
It’s about hope.
It’s about learning to trust your body again.
It’s about building strength — physically, mentally, and spiritually — one small choice at a time.
If you’ve been searching for someone who understands what it’s like to rebuild your life after chronic illness, I hope you’ve found her.
I’m so glad you’re here.
If you’re wondering about the puffer fish — that’s not an accident. My oldest son drew it years ago when he was still a young child, long before any of this. I found it recently while going through a box of old memories, and the second I saw it, I couldn’t stop laughing at how perfectly it described me: something small and stressful hits, and suddenly I’m puffed up, spikes out, defensive. Calm returns, and so do I. He didn’t know he was drawing my nervous system. But he was.

What I Believe
Healing isn’t linear, and it isn’t a finish line. You won’t “graduate” from managing a chronic condition — but you can build a genuinely different relationship with your body along the way, one rooted in partnership instead of war.
Your body isn’t broken. It’s doing its best with what it has. Every tool here starts from that belief, not from a place of fixing you.
Some days you have the capacity for a full workout and a homemade meal. Some days you don’t — and both days deserve a plan, not just the good ones. That’s why everything in the THRIVE Method flexes with you instead of demanding you flex for it.
Rest is not a reward you earn after doing enough. It’s part of the work.
The THRIVE Method
THRIVE is built around six pillars — not six separate programs, but six parts of one whole way of living with a chronic condition instead of constantly fighting it:
T — Tune In Learning to read your body’s signals before they become a flare, instead of only noticing once you’re in one.
H — Heal-Centered Nourishment Food as one gentle lever for calming inflammation — never another set of rigid rules to fail at.
R — Rebuild Strength Movement that meets your actual capacity on any given day, so you can build real strength without paying for it later.
I — Intentional Recovery Treating rest, sleep, and nervous system care as a discipline worth protecting — not something you only get to if everything else is done.
V — Values-Based Mindset Rewriting the stories you tell yourself about your body, your health, and what “progress” is even supposed to look like.
E — Environment & Community Recognizing that the people and spaces around you are part of your health plan too — and that healing doesn’t happen in isolation.
Every tool, guide, and worksheet in the THRIVE Method workbook was built around these six pillars — designed to be used on your terms, on your timeline, in whatever format meets you where you are that day.
Why Everything Comes in Two Formats
If you explore the THRIVE toolkit, you’ll notice most tools — trackers, worksheets, guides — come both as printable PDFs and as fillable digital versions.
That’s intentional. Some days, writing by hand feels grounding. Other days, even holding a pen feels like too much. So we built it both ways — because you shouldn’t have to choose between doing the work and matching your actual capacity that day.
Who This is For
Thrive Wellness Collective is for women managing chronic inflammation who are tired of wellness advice that assumes a body and a life you don’t have. It’s for anyone who wants less performative “self-care” and more of a real, sustainable way to live well inside the body they actually have — not the one wellness culture keeps describing.
You don’t need to have it all figured out to start. You just need to be willing to tune in.
